Default Engine knock a lot if white smoke low oil rough idle...stuck

2003 f350

I'm about 30 min south of Kansas City on i35 going from MN to CA truck is stock besides 4" straight back off stock downpipe.

I pulled off to get some fuel and a nap and as I pulled into the station I heard a loud knock coming for the engine a rough idle and a massive white cloud behind me.

Oil is not registering on dipstick...oil pressure was right in the middle of the H and L....my oil temp never went above 200 the whole trip (its cold though)

I started it again and no knock for a minute then it came back it was shut off for about 20 min maybe... but lots of white smoke

Where should I start? I've got limited tools (socket set and pliers etc)
Anyone around here or know of a diesel
Mechanic in the area for tomorrow/today Friday

Sounds like a bad injector, does it basically sound like an old diesel? the injector is letting too much fuel through and that is what is creating the knock I believe. does it get better at higher RPMs? you still have good boost?? My truck was doing the same thing for some time, I let it go until I could feel a miss every now and then while cruising then after that I changed the injector and it got rid of the knocking/rough idle/ and the fog machine that would have made any prop man in hollywood proud LOL. I drove thousands of miles like that because it only did it at idle and was fine while cruising which I did most of the time, hardly any city at all. Also when you can you ought to get the "blue" spring upgrade for the fuel regulator, the stock ones are known to be to weak and low fuel pressure can hurt the injectors.

Uh yeah, add some oil.

So I drove it some after adding a gallon of oil and 1/2 gallon of coolant ended up pulling it over and getting towed to a shop

eot made it all the way to 250 before I just pulled over..... truck strated chugging real bad/shaking
It is injector 7 by the way according to the scan tool but I'm still going to ship it.

I would fix it and drive it but I don't get why after the injector went bad (stuck open or broke the tip/dumping fuel) and now I have a huge difference in oil temp to coolant temp??

As I was driving night before the worst I ever saw was 15 F difference but usually stayed about 8-10 until I fired it up in the morning and drove some with that injector bad the eot just kept climbing and the coolant stayed at abut 180ish...the temp outside was roughly 20F to

Is they're any reason why eot would go high due to injector 7 dumping fuel like that???
I'd fix the injector and get back on the road but not if I'm gonna see that temp difference again.

That injector will cause temps to rise b/c its dumping fuel. The more fuel, the hotter the cumbustion temps. Just dont run it like that for too long as you will likely burn a piston(s).

Exactly, you're just dumping fuel and creating a ton of heat. RPM's are controlled by fuel on these, so as you add fuel, RPM goes up, and so does the temps. With a cracked nozzle you're just dribbling fuel in, so it's not atomizing properly (ie, poor burn, runs like garbage) and when it does burn it's just creating a ton of heat since there's no control as to how much fuel is going in.

Thx all,
Well where I was I wasn't even going to be able to get an injector on order till after Xmas
So got a rental car and getting to CA I have a couple brokers working on getting the truck shipped ASAP.

There has to be a local guy who can throw an injector in it for you... I find it hard to believe a local Ford dealer wouldn't have an injector for one of these in stock???

That is incredible since the 6.0s are known for injector problems -
so much for them being a "quality dealership" - my dealer in MT had stock piles of them
