Default Runs rough after warm up eventually dies then no start hot. Hpo leak??

A guy I work with was asking me this morning about his 6.0 and as stated above it will run fine then all of a sudden start running rough and eventually die then won't start for several hours. It's an 05 ccsb 250 fx4 has egr delete and nothing rest is stock. I think it sounds like a hpo leak that'd small and not a problem till the oil is warmed up and thin but I'm no expert and his mechanic is trying to take him to the cleaners for a couple injectors a fuel pressure regulator and some other stuff. Thank you for your help.

Sounds like the STC fitting on the HPOP, that should be replaced with the new version and while you are under the hood you should also replace the standpipes and dummy plugs. The standpipe and dummy plug kit is $102 and Replacement STC fitting is $38 from Tousley Ford online. The new STC fitting is now solid and not realy a snap to connect fitting anymore. If you or your buddy are good with tools then this should be a 1 day job if you do it yourself to save alot of money. don't bother with any injectors untill the fitting is rplaced because the injectors won't work right if the pump is leaking pressure through the STCfitting. It will give you false codes because the injectors don't have the right pressure going to them. Never let a mechanic throw parts at it, that is what gives the 6.0 a bad name

Thanks bob that's what I told him about the mechanic throwing parts at it and I was guessing in your area but wanted to back it up with someone with more knowledge I'm still new to this.

Yep, Bob hit the nail on the head. If either of you have access to a scanner you can watch it happen too.

Any competent powerstroke mechanic should know to check for that too...

Well he got screwed by the mechanic again. He told them what I said and what you guys told me and the mechanic told him there was nothing wrong with any of those because they had all already been replaced. Needless to say he is driving my truck right now to go pull his boat out of the lake. Got his back and drove it for about 30 minutes before it died again. Good news is the mechanic admitted he was wrong in not looking at leaking hop and is going to make it right, well try to, who knows with this mechanic. Thanks for all your help guys. Does anyone in the north Texas or southern Oklahoma area know of a GOOD mechanic? I will work on mine and don't mind helping guys out but just don't have the shop access to work on everyone's much less the knowledge that most of you guys have.

Texas is littered with good diesel shops. Not sure how far they are from you, but powerstroke enginuities is in TX, and they do top notch powerstroke work. You can find them on facebook too. PSE.

I think if you type in the letters L O L together it comes up automatically haha. All of the smileys are text based, so typing the correct letters just pops the smiley in.

5 hours is sometimes worth it to find someone who knows what they're doing. There are other shops in TX, I'm just not terribly familiar with the area.

I know I reached a point during my warranty work that I would have drove 5 hours in a heartbeat just to find someone who knew how to diagnose this truck properly. I did 2+ hours a couple of times for it.
