Start my truck in the a.m. and try to take off. Truck will barely move until it is warm and it runs rough when I do drive it until it is warm. Its been doing this for a long time. My truck has an egr delete and a recent hpop. 2003 f350 with 6.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also have a coolant leak on top of the passenger side of engine when cold.

I would normally say FICM, but I know you have a good one on there

Have you had your batteries tested/replaced recently? I'd start with having them load tested. It also wouldn't hurt to double check that FICM just in case. After that it's oil and additives that will help. What oil are you using now? What oil filter? Have you tried putting some rev-x in? Stuff does wonders in these trucks.

 

Hey mdub thanks for replying it actually started doing it shortly after the ficm change. It has new filters and oil. I am using the ford motorcraft oil. As for additives none yet. I have not been running a tune. Would you be available anytime to take a look at it with me. Not yet on the Rev x and I will have my batteries tested tomorrow. Still haven't changed the fuel pump still pumping around 60 psi. I bought some gauges I need to install. Anything else you guys can think of let me know. Thanks.

 

I should be around most of this weekend. I can bring my AE and we can scan it too. We can run an injector buzz test and maybe even a cylinder contribution test if I get the software working correctly.

We have a 2003 F350 6.0L. Had great difficulty starting on cold mornings even after being plugged in. Changed all the fuel injectors....didnt help. Put new High pressure pump on....started great when warm, but will not start again when cold. Had glow plugs tested before anything was changed and they were fine. At a loss....Do you think it is the FICM or anyother suggestions? When the truck is running, it runs awesome. A lot of power.

 

Sorry to hear you replaced all of that stuff to no avail... likely none of it needed changing.

I would start by taking the batteries off of the truck and having them individually load tested. Even if they're newer. It's more of an elimination to make sure that's not it first. After that, check your FICM. You can find the FICM test procedure at the top of the page. Youtube is also very helpful for this. Report back here with what you find for the FICM.



Guys, FWIW, I did get to Josh's house last weekend. I had replaced a FICM for him previously. I hooked up my AE with the Ford bundle, and watched battery voltage, FICM voltages (logic, main), ICP actual and ICP desired. The truck would start and FICM voltage seemed low. I thought this was odd seeing as it was a repaired FICM. Voltage dropped to around 40 on my AE (the lowest it reads, which is why I prefer the multi-meter). I did notice however that battery voltage was also low. As the truck ran for a minute and started warming up, battery voltage and FICM voltage both crept up. Now, I'm not electrician, but to me that says the FICM is likely ok, but there is an issue with battery voltage and possibly a draw somewhere. Upon opening the hood and inspecting the cables, we found the passenger side ground cable from the battery going down was approximately 1/2 worn through from the intercooler tube. Exposed copper was rubbing on the aluminum tubing. Not sure if this is the entire problem, but I'm sure it's not helping. I also noticed a non factory oil filter cap. I got home, did some searching and got Josh his P/N's. He was going to order a factory ford oil filter cap, factory filter, two bottles of rev-x and fix the ground on the truck and report back to me. Just waiting to see how he made out now... I'll keep you guys posted.
