We can't tell you what the "BEST" oil out there is, because for some guys that means different things. The best thing is to start off by making sure you're using an oil approved for your engine.

I can tell you what a lot of the popular oils for the 6.0 are though.

For non synthetic stuff, a lot of guys use the motorcraft 15w-40, and a lot use the Rotella 15w-40. For full synthetic stuff, a lot of guys use the T6 Rotella 5W-40, a lot use the Valvoline premium blue 5w-40 (I used the non synt version of this, the 15w-40 and it was one of the worst I've used yet, engine hated it).

Oil is vital in these due to the high pressure oil systems, so the better the oil, the better your truck will run. Your engine will literally tell you what it likes and doesn't like.

Also oil additives have become wildly popular in the last year or so. Rev-X is a popular choice, and now hotshots, and evergreen AR9100 have come to the market. These additives will make a HUGE difference in how your truck runs.

Another point to make is the oil filter, use ONLY OEM Ford, motorcraft, international or Fram (yes, I said Fram, they're the same filter as the motorcrafts, and I know they suck in nearly every other application). This will be more important than what oil you choose. The wrong filter (especially the one's with their own cap) can do some serious damage to your 6.0 and in some cases cause them to not even run!

Could you expand on this for me? My work truck is a 2006 F550 with the 6.0L in it. It get a lot of idle time, as the crane and air compressor are both PTO driven. If there is an additive that will help, I'm all for it. As you said, oil is vital to these engines.

The best thing for a 6.0 that has to idle all day is the high idle mod, first.

Rev-X will all but cure any stiction/injector issues. Ever been in a 6.0 that you can't drive right away when you start it, otherwise it breaks up and stubmles etc? Add some rev-x, that will disappear. The stuff is truly amazing. It is kind of expensive though. I've heard great things about the evergreen stuff and I will be trying that next time, it's also cheaper.

Just try some out Ryan, you'll notice a difference almost right away. Smoother throttle response, lower injector noise, starts easier, smokes less... just awesome stuff.

I put that one in, #3 switch controls it. The truck runs between 1200 and 1500 when the PTO is on, depending on what is running.

I'll definitely be getting some of it, and trying it out. Ever heard what Sea-Foam would do, or how well it works?

useless in these from what I can tell. There will be nothing else you will try that will have even 1/10 the effect that rev-x does. I only say rev-x because it's the only one I've tried, I will be trying the Evergreen as it's cheaper, but others swear by that as well.

Well, I may try and track down some Rev-X for now, and wait to hear how the Evergreen works for you. Using there "where to buy" from their website, there isn't any really close.

I have heard a TON of good things about Rev-X, but never used it
In your opinion where is the best place to buy it?
