I've never seen any other than the regular orange box for our application though, that's the only reason I asked. I was aware of the different types for the screw on filters, but not like ours... I'll have to look into it. I'd be a little worried getting anything other than what comes in the orange box, since that's the one that matches Ford's filters.

I wasn't aware yours wasn't a spin on but I know the other 2 are supposed to be better than the orange box one and are priced a couple bucks more, maybe Fram's website can tell you what the difference is. I don't run Fram's based on stories I've heard on them but maybe they build better filters for the Powerstroke. :c:

Yeah Frams are absolute garbage in the spin on variety. The only reason we run them on the 6.0 specifically is because it's the exact same filter you'd buy that comes in the motorcraft box, right down to the P/N printed on the bottom of the filter. If it was a spin on, you couldn't pay me to run it. This cartridge style is exactly the same as the Ford filters though.

Just checked, Fram's website only lists the one filter for the 6.0 and it's the extra guard.

Autozone has the ToughGuard last I checked

NOT tryin to stir up anything but based on the 6.0's track record, maybe what Ford uses isn't the best option in a filter :humm:
Using an oil filter that comes with it's own cap is a HUGE no-no. |
Extremely limited :ouch:

Both Fram and STP are direct replacement for filter, in fact just learned that STP has a bit more media than Fram so it might be better, we'll see cuz i just got my oil change supplies
|
We'd have to look at the flow comparisons too, more media isn't always a good thing. It still needs to be able to allow enough oil to flow through. I'd like to see the comparisons. I know the basic Fram filters share the same part numbers on the base of the filter as the motorcraft units.
