Get an OASIS report from the Ford dealer, it will tell you all of the vehicle warranty work done at Ford.
Look for white residue around the coolant cap.
If you had the software it'd be nice to see what the difference in temp is between the oil and coolant, that would tell you if the oil cooler is clogging.
Also be nice to test the FICM, but not a huge deal.
When looking at any diesel I prefer to hear it start ice cold. If you get there and it's already warmed up, it could mean issues when you try to start it cold.
Ask about maintenance on it, how often, what was used etc. You only want a truck that has had FORD or motorcraft (or international) fuel and oil filters. No oil filters that have their own caps. Fram oil filters are ok too in this one case.

white residue around the degas cap would point to a head gasket problem or maybe even the egr cooler. Either way if there is white anywhere on the degas tank it most likely has problems, 1 out of maybe 10 I would say had too much coolant and blew the excess out but be weary either way.

BTW the 80/20 is based on failures that I have heard/read/dealt with and is not reflective of concrete evidence from shops nationwide (some could be 90/10, 60/40 etc). But those are the 2 primary causes
