Intermittent a/c

Intermittent a/c
Drive f250 6.0 with 150,000 miles, engine only has 85,000. Since the new engine was installed we replaced 2 injectors, the oil cooler and deleted the EGR. Right before having the work done we noticed the a/c was starting to intermittently blow hot air. The garage was aware but didn't address this issue because was still doing it when we got it back. Took it in and mechanic said its down a pound of freon and that he could see small trickles of leaking oil on my condenser. He tried to show them to me but I couldn't see any differences on surface of condenser. Set me up w/ an appt to replace it for $700. He added freon. Next day I still have the same problem. I call and he tells me I probably already lost the pound he added. My question is, if it's leaking that fast why is it working at all? I've been reading about air gaps and this sounds more like the problem I'm having. Thoughts?

Okay...driving from LA to Phoenix in over 100 degree heat and a/c shuts off for good. Going up long climb engine overheating warning gage goes all the way up suddenly. We pulled over and let it cool down for 5 minutes then crawled up hill and driving at 65 w/o further incidence but no a/c. It has dropped the a/c more when pulling 12,000 lb horse trailer but mechanic that did other fixes said it isn't related to pulling trailer. After being ripped off $1600 on replacing the EMC, I'm not feeling trustworthy. Air coming out of a/c is hotter than desert air. Thank you for sharing your thoughts/ideavs

Is the vacuum pump functioning correctly? It wont cause all of your problems but it can contribute. Sounds like you'll need a qualified tech to take a look. We can bounce ideas all day but until some verification test are completed there's no good way to determine the issue.
