2003 Excursion 7.3 -- buy or not? -- need advice
As a former '99 SD 7.3L (4" exhaust, DP tunes, Gear Vendor trans) owner, and going through withdrawal after selling it (kick me! kick me! ) this spring, I'm needing a diesel 'fix', and found a one owner '03 Excursion (because all the SD trucks are at record prices around here!) for a reasonable sum.
My impression is that mechanically the Excursion is basically a Superduty with a permanent camper shell glued in place. Well, kinda like that.
Any strange Excursion-specific things I should look for other than going over it as if it was a regular SD truck?
Will use it both for occasional towing 6k trailer, daily cruising, plus future crawling around on dirt roads (it's my job). I don't hot rod, and drive normally like a grandpa, and can twirl a wrench if need be, so not scared of taking care of tinkering.
Appreciate any Excursion input!
Thanks

Excursion -
Made an offer today - will see if it is accepted. After taking the SO for a ride, she LIKES it, but warned me it would have to be my truck, and not a plaything - right she is...
Has the steering 'wander' - helped some by adjusting the steering box, but have followed the threads re rear spring windup, steering box adjustment/replacement, and Roadmaster spring kits.
Not afraid to tinker with it - Eddie Bauer package, orig owner, looks real good in and out. Engine bay serves breakfast every morning, as in it's clean enough to eat from, but not 'recently cleaned up to sell' kind of clean.
Besides, I really-really miss my '99 PSD 7.3 !!!! And I deserve another 7.3 liter - right???
Thanks for the replies

Yes you deserve it,its funny how much you miss the turbo singing and the milage you get after feeding a gas gussler for a wile.I made the mistake of going with a gasser after 25+ years of driving diesels, that lasted less than a year and took a beating trading in so soon but love the LMM.I trade in every 2 years or so but I love this 09 so much Im done with that, its nice to have no truck payment after 30 years.
