Default Water in Fuel

I dropped my buddy off at his house and realized I was low on diesel, so I went to fill up the tank at a station by his house. I'd never gone to this place before, and it looked like a dump, but I was pretty far from home so I went for it.

Bad mistake. I slid my card, dropped the nozzle in, locked the handle on max and walked in to the store to buy some smokes. When I came out I checked the pump and saw it only had passed about 4 gallons, and was slooooooowly dribbling fuel into my truck. I shut it all down and went inside to ask what was wrong. The guy tells me he must be out of diesel, and that he had been running low all day. Just great...

On my way to the next closest station and my WIF lights up. I have a feeling I was sucking the crap off the bottom of his tanks and it more than likely had some water in there. Time to start draining things out.

That sucks......I try to only buy fuel at truck stops or places that I know sell alot of it....

Thats a good tip. I know there's a Flying J down the road from where I live, unfortunately that spot was about 25 miles from where I was when I realized how low my fuel was. Live and learn I guess.

I'm at a stand still as to what to do. I drained the bowl on top of the engine and found very little water in it. I wonder if maybe it had been accumulating up there and not a bad batch of fuel? I've changed the fitler once before when the gasket had started leaking fuel down into the engine valley way back when I first bought the truck, and I don't remember any water in it then, but I also wasn't really looking for it.

You guys think I need to drain the whole tank out for inspection? I do have an unused 55 gallon poly drum in my garage I use for generater gas when hurricane season rolls in. I could probably get it drained quickly since gravity is completely on my side with the ride height I don't have anything other than a hand pumped siphon hose so putting it back into the tank will be a whole different story

The WIF light hasn't come back on. I have not drained the tank, and I don't think I'm going to. I'll keep my eye on the dash lights and pray to the diesel Gods it doesn't come back on.

Did have a dead set of batteries this morning - no idea why either. Lucky for me I'm having a flagstone patio being finished and the guy who is working on it has an F350. He let me borrow one of his batteries to get things going again. Damn near melted my neighbors jumper cables trying to start the thing.

No need to, more then likely you just got a little in there... Throw some powerservice in it, and change the fuel filter after a few days.
