Dana 50 vs 60
true dana 60 is just a dana 60. full size everything. much better choice than a dana 50. but if you dont really need or cant afford a nice 60, a 50 has a thicker and stronger housing than a 44 and theyre very cheap and easy to find
ring gear diameter is only 9" on a 50 and 9.75" on A 60
1.65" vs 1.35" pinion shaft diameter
35 spline vs 30 spline
just to name a few. hope it helps!

i dont believe so. i believe a dana 50 has an "almost" identical housing as a 60. but i dont believe theyre the same. you could call an axle tubing shop and ask them for more details im not really sure on that. but i dont think you can. i believe the differentials are different on a 50 than both a 60 and a 44 i think it is right inbetween both of them for ring and pinion size. i know there are several companies who are selling 35 spline kits for them as well and gear options are starting to become more readily available
That's not what I am hearing
im pretty sure excursions came with 50's. my buddy straight axled his silverado with a 50 that came from an excursion. as with all dana axles look at the bottom right corner of the front of the bottom and it should be stamped with a d35, d44, d50, d60, d70 etc etc etc
From what I am reading the 50's in Ex's have the same ring and pinion size as a 60 but have smaller axle shafts. Apparently they hold up well even with larger tires and moderate wheeling. Not much out there aftermarket wise for them though.....ARB or powertraxx is about it for lockers
