I'm trying to convince my wife that an excursion is what she needs for her next vehicle, diesel of course. Problem is, we can't get one new anymore, and she wants new. Also, she doesn't like how "big" it is. I'd love to drive one.

I think the Excursion was kick ***. Ford and all the other "idiot" companies out there make a few good things and fill the rest of the line with crap. The reasons for the demise of the this monster is not the diesel motor but the gasser as it was most of the sales.

If Ford got it's collective head out of its *** and brought it back with the 6.4L and a choice of more effective trim levels (instead of the eddie), offered a stick tranny and a few other things it would kick ***.

Contractors, Foremen, Engineers, Inspectors and anyone that needed something to carry a few people and get good mileage through the bush, a creek or 6 and have the ground clearance to get it all done - they'd be laughing all the way to the bank. Instead this group of people is forced to have a short box crew cab which sometimes isn't the best choice.

On a side note: there is a guy here in town with one that is heavily modded with a 4" lift and 37" treads (or so). it is very cool.

AI have always liked the Ex...but it wasn't for me...I like Trucks too much. A friend of ours bought an Ex for his wife with the V10 since she hated the smell of diesel. Tha lasted about a month then they got her an Ex with a diesel...She now loves the smell of diesel

I love em. They are great rides. None of us at Ford can figure it out. They got Excellent fuel miliage and had gobs of power. Cant go wrong with a 7.3 or 6.0 EX!

I have been trying to get the wife to trade in her 04 expedition on a diesel excursion but she wont budge. What all do the eddie buer ones have? I hate hers but it is an eddie bauer and now that she has all the little stupid bells and wistles she thinks she will need them in an excursion too.

yah i heard that the gas mileage and the size were the ultimate demise of the vehicle. most soccer moms didn't want the diesel version and it wouldn't fit in a lot of ppl's garages due to length and/or height.

Default Ex's

The Ex's get AWESOME fuel milage. Diesel that is. They run about 18 down the highway. The gassers run about 10. They are ofcourse very powerful and a great ride. The reason they dropped the Ex is unknown. They sold the heck out of them and all that owned one loved them. I want one really bad. Oh yeah, the eddie's are completely loaded. Every bell and whistle known to man. Some even have second row captains.

I never could find the box for the 6 cylinder diesel option though. Or the Allison transmission.
