I really don't get what your talking about IDI's haveing more indurance for example a 6.7 cummins has more torque at idle then a IDI's peak tq. I wouldn't be surprised if the 6.7 powerstroke is higher also. And the 6.7 powerstroke has a higher red line the the IDI's. So what exaclty are you talking about??

Default Reply to idi pulling power

I'm just tryin to say i think the older ones have more RPM build up than newer ones, what I mean is when your hooked up and pulling the new ones just dont have it after 3-5 grand, just seem like no power left, guess im used to older diesels where it takes longer and you can feel it building up.

Peak torque for diesels is not in the 3-5K ranges its generally in the 2-3K range like Cummins its in the 2400 -2800 Rpm range. Depending on the fuel pumps and transmission. I ve driven the ole 6.9L and 7.3L and the new trucks out pull them all day long, I live in the rockie mountains not the flat grounds.

yeah you can sustain 3200 rpm's in an IDI i think is what he's sayin... u cant do that to a cummins.... not long anyways..... I run mine each shift to 3400-3500 gov... then shift.... and it does love it..... like the old detroits... run the ***** out of em... they like to be rev'ed up.....

i agree with 4x4manonbroke. i run my 6.9 up to the gov every shift. and when i go down the highway its all but against the gov the whole time at 70 mph. damn 4.10's. and my motor dosnt miss a beat.

I'm luck I guess.... I have 3.55's and 35" tires... i godown the freeway everyday ... @ 70 I'm right about 2500 rpm's .... which gives me room to pass if needed..... or down shift and scare the crap out of everyone around me... .... the K&N filter housing that massive open air pump under the hood.... my freinds say they can hear my truck when I'm commin offf the freeway if they are standing on the front porch... they live about 1/8 mile from the off ramp....LOL ......

(Newer diesels seem to bog down when towin and my IDI, just seems to have more steady RPM build up).

IDI peak torque is around 1400, and then after that it's surprisingly flat... What the OP is talking about is the feel of the vehicle, the newer trucks feel more like a gas engine, feels like there's nothing there, then all of a sudden you have torque, then it just tapers off. While the IDIs tend to pull harder and harder as they wind up.
