Default 86 6.9 fuel water seperator and other issues

Recently bought a 1986 f250 with the 6.9 diesel . I have been experiencing a stalling issue , seems mostly when it's very cold out the truck will surge, lose rpms and 2 nights ago actually quit and left me sitting on the highway, after sitting over an hour I used a little starting fluid and it refired and I was able to get it home.I recently replaced the fuel filter (2weeks ago), I have been reading about the fuel water sep ...mine has been bypassed, could it be as simple as icing since no water seperation?I have looked over the fuel lines the do not look wet anywhere.

Part 2...I managed to crack the front injector cup on passenger side of the truck while trying to snug the line that runs to it from the filter head, I have located new cups but have never changed one can anyone give a quick how to here ? Thanks for any help in advance.

I have been trying to locate a spin on fuel water seperator for my 86 6.9, I am aware that some guys use the filter head from a 7.3 to be able to use a 7.3 filter and I also know there are after market filters and heads from raycor, just wondering if anyone has come across one that simply screws on the stock 6.9 filter head without mods.
Thanks Royboy
