Even with the manual trans this thing doesnt do too well over 55 on the highway. You can watch the fuel gauge drop. Also, ive got a very noticeable and annoying knock coming from the transmission. I did some research but all i found was one post by a guy who said the dealer said it was normal??? Doesnt sound too normal to me. You guys have any ideas??
Last thing. It seems it takes a lot more to get it started in the morning than it should. It only gets down into the 60's at night here and it just doesnt want to wake up in the mornings. Could the fuel system be losing prime?? If so where are some common areas this happens? Possible ways to pin point it??
Thanks for all the help!

Are you sure the knocking is coming from the transmission? If so it could be the flywheel. Not sure if yours has the dual mass flywheel or not but they were/are prone to taking a dump. Bad injectors will knock as well. I would say that the old beast is definitely in need of a new injector pump and some new injectors along with the fuel return line kit. As far as the solenoid wiring, if everything is working when you turn the key to on then it sounds like it's wired right. If it's just not cranking when you turn the key to start and you know that your starter is good then it's probably a bad key switch or loose wire running from the key switch to the solenoid. Mine did this and I just hooked the solenoid to a momentary switch in the cab for the starter. Glow plugs not warming up, is your glow plug or wait to start light coming on when you turn the key on? Do you hear the glow plug relay clicking after a few seconds? If yes to both then you probably need new glow plugs. If no then your glow plug relay probably isn't working, you can hook that up to a manual switch too. You you probably need new glow plugs either way. For IDI info check out oil burners.net and ford-trucks.com. Big IDI sections on both of them.
On a side note, a buddy of mine has a 2004 6.0 with a cracked head. Said the dealership is charging him $7300 to fix it!!! Wow, I would never be able to have a 6.0 cause if something went wrong I would never be able to get it fixed!

Well it seems to me that the dealership is taking him for a ride. I found several places that he could get a remanufactured long block engine for about $2000 less than he is paying the dealership to fix a cracked head. Don't have to worry about that with these good ole IDI'S. You could replace everything on the whole dang truck for less than that!
