Default belts?

hey all i got the 7.3 with ac but took ac out "(too expensive to replace compressor) but my question is the belt that goes around the crank pully, water pump pully and to the alt. i replaced it after it snaped but it always has slack in it i tighteded it usins a breaker bar and still has play im just tired of replacing this belt every 1500 or so miles any suggestions or maybe i have it run wrong thanks tim.

the alternator drive belts always have some play in the due to the long run from the alt back to the crank. mine at idle would almost vibrate and hit the vac pump. i am gona throw out a guess and say u are tightening it way to tight. there is gona be play.

I recently found this out as well, it's a common problem on these trucks. It was suggested that I get a shorter belt that only goes around the water pump and the alternator. Use a rope to measure how long it needs to be and take the old belt in so you will know the length and width you will need for the shorter belt.

So its normal that my alternator belt flops around a little when the engine is running? I think mines a short one already, I's have to look again to be sure.
