Default idi exhaust

still looking for exhaust ideas for low mileage all stock 7.3idi zf 5spd 4x4. looking for ideas other than adding turbo. Stack maybe?aftermarket muffler?not sure how to turn up IP or how much i can. its a daily driver so id like to do some safe mods that wont case damage or hurt mileage too bad.
bring on the ideas
thanks

on my idi i have a straight pipe to a single stack and it sounds great i think. as for the ip mine is turned up one flat i wouldnt go much more then that cuz u run the risk of making to high egts, id sugest befor turning up the pump u get a pyro gauge. also if u want an intake hypermax sells a cowl air induction intake for 80 bucks or so, im geting that soon and a turbo.

i took my muffler off the other day and it sounded awful. mines a 5spd and it crackles bad when i get in the gas. does yours do that without a muffler? is it a deep sound?i was thinking of running a single 4" stack, wasnt sure if that would be too much back pressure though

4 inch stack to much backpressure? stop hoggin that **** and pass it now.

a single 3 inch pipe is plenty for the idi engine. i run stock down pipe into 4 inch stack and just made 161 hp and 320 ftlbs. not to shabby is ya ask me.

My first idi was a 5 speed.I took the muffler off and ran 3 inch pipe from the motor back then split it to two 2.5 inch pipe to 3 inch chrome tips. I thought it sounded great.

I'm running a straight pipe on my 6.9 idi and I think it sounds great. I ran the factory 2.5" pipe out the side for a while then I picked up a 3" stack and put it on. Mine cackled more when it was in the stock exit location then it does with the stack. I like the cackle sound though. I'm wanting to go to 4" dual stacks and I'm halfway tempted to run true duals until I can afford to get a turbo.

Also the bigger the tip the less crackly it will sound.
