Default Ring and pinion

I need to change the gears in my front axle cuz they don't match the rear I don't kno what gears the rear has. How do I find out what gears it is and how hard is it to change out the front gears. The front end is a high pinion Dana 44

I don't kno I got the truck the way it is. Wen I put it in 4x4 it rood forward like 2 feet then stoped but wen in 2wd it rolls fine. It's a 94 f250 but the front axle came out of a 77 f250

There should be little tags where the bolts are on the diff covers that say what the gear ration is. I'm going to guess that the rear is 4:10. See if you can find a little metal tag on the front axle and let us know what it says. At least its a solid front end you want to swap gears on. The factory TTB front end is a real pain since the axle housing is the front cover.

The tags arnt there but that's wouldn't help anyways cuz the previous owner had the rear gears changed but dosnt kno what they are for some reason. I've heard there is a way to figure out watt the ratio is but I donkt kno how to do it

There's a calculator here on the site that you can plug tire size and rpm and speed into and it'll figure your rear end. Try it. Not sure on what to tell ya for the front.

pull the cover off, it should say on the gears also, but jack up both front tires, spin front tires at the same speed and time one rev while watching driveshaft. count revs on driveshaft. 3 and half turns=3.55 gears. 3 and 3/4 turns= 3.73. little over 4 turns= 4.10 gears, and maybe with the tire size, 4 and half turns= 4.56 gears.

but both tires have to be spun at same time. otherwise the spider gears will change the ratio.

Thanks I'll try it. Will that work with the rear also? Will it work with the 39inch tires on it or do i have to take them off

if never done them before, i would have them done by someone who has. gears can be angering.

yes it will work with the rear also. tire size wont matter. draw a line from rim to tread and a line on the shaft.
