Default 1990 soon to be powerstroke...

I have a 1990 F-250 with the old IDI hitched to a ZF manual, performance parts include stage 1 injectors, K&N air filter and an exhaust system. I recently stumbled across a 96 powerstroke for cheap. I was wondering what peoples thoughts were as to whether I should swap the blocks out completely or just adapt the powerstroke technology onto my block... I will most likely swap the transmissions because my second and reverse gear synchronizers are going out.

This was what I posted on Pirate4x4.com the link is:

I have pretty much decided that I'll have to put the 96 drivetrain in my 1990. Now what I would like to know is any secrets or information that would help me in doing it. And no I'm not going to just drive the 96, it's destiny is to be parted out. I am taking the motor, transmission, tailgate and whatever else I need for the swap out. It does have a Ranch Hand front end replacement and Ranch Hand rear bumper, auxiliary fuel tank with a small tool box built into the top that will be for sale along with the rest of the vehicle. If your interested in anything PM me.

i had a buddy do this. the 80-97 cabs pretty much are the same except for the wiring harness where it runs threw the cab. what he did was swaped the entire dash and motor/trans into his 85 f350. that way he didnt have to fumble with wiring the computer into the old wiring. swaped harnes, dash, steering colum, and all. but he even put the front clip on his to make it look newer.

looked good when done.

The IDI and the DI are different monsters completely. I don't think you can just "swap technology". The heads are completely different. The blocks are fairly different. The pistons are different...blah blah blah. You would have to swap out the whole motor, not just swap parts.

I don't think this applies. Maybe if he were swapping in a CUMMINS but he said he is swapping in a POWERSTROKE. Unless I am reading this wrong...

The only thing interchangeable between an IDI and a PSD is the oil filter.

Thanks but I've already decided that I'm gonna swap the motor and trans completely. Just gimme info on what might aid me in this, and no I don't need fordcummins because there will be no cummins in this truck.
