Default Glow plug issues

My 88 f350 7.3 is giving me problems starting. Ive replaced the glow plug controller since the original one just flashed the wait to start once and then just clicked. I changed it with a new one and it comes on for maybe 4 seconds. i hit the key and just cranks and cranks. Wont start unless you give it a shot of wd40/ either in the intake. I know that either is bad for them and use very little. I tested the glow plugs and they are good. Im lost and dont know what else to look for? Any help is appreciated. Thanks Dave

Okay went out and played with the 88 some more and apparently now i have bad glow plugs 2 middle ones are bad on drivers side and the second one out from the firewall on passenger side. Could this be causing it to cycle a shorter time? Ive gotta save enough money now and replace these.

My 92 isnt starting good either it cranks forever then finally fires. Its got a new controller also and good beur/international plugs. Tested them with the test light trick and all of themmade the bulb light. It doesnt matter if its just but driven 3hrs it still canks forever to start. Anythought on this one?

Ps. I keep both trucks plugged in all any time their at home and it dont make a differeence in starting.

Bad glow plugs can still pass the test light trick. They may have increased resistance but still flow a bit of juice. If the controller only stays on for a short period, it means there is too much resistance. I tested my plugs with a test light, replaced the 2 bad ones and it still started like crap. I replaced the other 6 and now it starts perfectly.

Have you checked for fuel leaks, could be air getting into the system and losing your prime.
