Default tranny for 88 ford

my brother has an 88 250 with a 6.9. befor he bought it someone swaped out the overdrive tranny for a three speed auto. haveing trouble finding out what o/d trannys will fit.

I will check and see what trans that truck came with when I am at work tomorrow. It's in the paper manuals, but not the electronic ones anymore.

i think i miss stated the o/d could it have been just a 4 speed auto? I dont know it just dosnt seem to get the mlg it should only about 15 on the highway. my 93 gets about 25. It also seems to be turning reaky high rpms

they went to the 4 speed tranny (3speed + OD) in 90 IIRC.... its normal for you to have the C6.... you can put an older E4OD behind if ya want... bolts right up....

How hard would it be to bolt up an E4OD with all the wiring? Even if you could find an AOD, would this work too? They both have different gear selectors, so how would that work?

Sounds about right for a c6... Run your '93 in direct (3rd) for awhile and compare the mpg..

my 93 in third gear runs about the same r.p.m. just seems realy high. but thanks for all the replys everyone question answered
