What can I get for under $5K

I'm okay with the "extra" advice. I posted in the Ford IDI section for two reasons. First off, an IDI would be in my price range. Secondly, most of my friends from those days were farmers. By in large, when it came to diesels, they all preferred the Ford over everything else.
I know that the old chevy diesels really are not just converted gas engines, but they do run at a higher RPM, which means more wear, and less torque per unit of displacement, which IMHO is counter productive to the design of a good diesel. I like the CTD too, but it's just not in the budget.
Thanks,
Mark

you can find an alright f250 powerstroke for that if you look hard. the 7.3s are the best engines. i havent had any problems out of mine except a minor fuel leak from the fuel cap and most parts are replaceable. if you find one for 5k or less theres probably gonna be some minor body damage. goodluck on finding a good truck!
