take the muffler off to see what it sounds like. waste gate should be adjustable if not pinch the waste gate line off

Are you aiming for quieter or louder?

well id like it to sound like a diesel when im on it. instead it cackles like glass packs.i just got the truck from my grandad who just passed away last week he was a truck driver all his life and i want to make it into something hed be proud of.i got under it yesterday and it does not have a muffler so im figuring it may need larger diameter exhaust i havent measured it but i'd guess it to be about 3 to 3.5 inches.

diesel power or diesel world did an article about this a few months ago. i think the summary of it was the larger diameter pipe did nothing for power but for sound it was better. i would try 4 inch pipe for the best sound

I have a 3" dp, and 4" exhaust into 5" stacks, no muffler. It sounds so damn sweet. It's got a light throaty V8 like burble, but the turbo whistle lets you know it's all diesel. When downshifting, it sounds just like a diesel with an exhaust brake. There's no cackling or any other weird noises.

it will drop your EGT's and you will gain boost, so you can add a little more fuel to the truck......well worth the time and money spent......Jim Allen did the install on his olf IDI ford.....

If you haven't done the head gaskets or put studs in the motor I would be very careful about the boost level, I've seen some guys run 12-13 psi safely with studs and new gaskets. And for the EGTs I wouldn't go much higher then 1250 for very long or risk a catstrophic meltdown

it pulls 11 to 12 psi now when im really in the pedal. if i add bigger exhaust and turn it up some will this help the turbo spool quicker. i was thinking it might being i'd be getting rid of exhaust gas faster. i dont know maybe im wrong.
