Default EGT gauge on 6.9/7.3?

I have read many posts about turning up an injection pump, and all of them reccomend installing an EGT gauge. How is it one goes about doing that?

i put mine in the drivers side rear of manifold, there are raised humps on the manifold right at the exhaust outlets. i put mine in the rear one. i had to cut a drill bit down and used a 90 degree drill. other than making a custom bit it was easy. the hump i was talking about is a good spot because there is more metal for threads and also a flat spot for mounting. its a real easy step to do if you had the manifold or engine out.

Cool, thanks. What kind of gauge did you get? Any suggestions on gauge or sender or whatever?

i like the "issro" guages, they are easy to read and a pretty close match to what the factory guages look like. autometers, dipricol... a cool thing about isspro is they a option to get a color/warning type face. just besure to order the pre-turbo type.

Thanks. By the way, whats a safe operating temperature, as well as the maximum you can safely turn up the pump?

i think most would agree to stay under 1200 degrees. i set my pump up so when i pull a trailer up a hill floored it wont go over 1100 or so. i would rather drive the truck than have to stare at the egt and start backing off the fuel. it generally runs in the 600-900 range normal drive/accel, idles around 300. over 900 under heavy throttle.
