Those old naturally aspirated motors really r very great engines. I loved mine to death, its just too bad the truck is falling apart around the motor!
Injectors r easy too, I was looking into getting a set of injectors from Ken at DPS, but laetly im hearing some interesting things though. hehehehe, just send em to have em EDM'd is what im thinking now. I used to have all the info on stuffing a powerstroke turbo on it.

Got a question for ya Tex, U sure thats a 6.9? 89 had 7.3's. I think 86 or 87 was the last year for 6.9's. Just curious.

87 was the last year of the 6.9, it was also the first year of the boxy body style, 88 was the first year of the 7.3. the 89 may have had a 6.9 swaped in place of the 7.3, my buddy has one of them its a great truck and he beats the hell out of it. he drove it every day till the rear main went and he bought a 93 cummins, he still has the IDI though

I have found that a few of these things need either to fire off. But mostly due to the glowplugs, and timing. My X boss used to have this 90 F-superduty, nice truck, but the guy doesnt deserve to own a diesel cause he's too stupid to care or know better. ANYWAY, he used the cheap *** glowplugs and said to "put the gas on the floor and turn it over till it starts." yeah, 3K RPM later without oil pressure on the first start up of the day........... Man I hate that guy.......... he eventually sold the business (with the truck)

What glowplugs are in it? U got to use the Stealer glowplugs. Not only do they last longer, (like years, with a plural) but they dont break the tips off and fall into the combustion chamber.

I have to change mine out before winter hits. Still fired off good with like 6 working plugs in 0* weather though.

Cool. I came across part of a kit. Basiacally the mounting hardware and downpipe for cheap elsewhere. I plan on getting some custom made headers to mount the turbo different, and using my H1C from my Cummins. I love my IDI, the motor has never let me down, and runs great. But the shoddy fuel lines n crap elsewhere......

If ya want, i know of an excellent site with tons of info for the IDI's. www.oilburners.net

Check out the cavitation article.

thanks for the input on that. but i really dont want to drop to much money in this truck. i am going to put about 3 or 4 grand into it. i would love to make it a powerstroke. i wil prolly go through banks for the trubo kit but i still got to shop around.
