Looking at an 88 with a bad injector, can I replace it with a junk yard part?

Default Looking at an 88 with a bad injector, can I replace it with a junk yard part?

Hey Guys,

I am looking to buy this truck
1988 f350 diesel

I am going to offer him $500 I think and then see about getting the injector from a junkyard, there are some from 50-150 that I have seen from junkyards online in my area.

Can anyone tell me if this is a good/bad idea replacing from a junk yard?

What is the difficulty level on replacing this? Can I do it in the yard and leave with it the same day? What kind of problems do people usually run in to while replacing them?

Does the truck look like a good deal?

Thanks Again,

Devin

For starters as often as the ford IDI injectors go bad I wouldn't put a used one in. Now as for the price I hope that 50 to 150 isn't for a used one. I put all new injectors in my 94 7.3 IDI for 35$ an injector. They were stanadyne injectors new not reman. Stanadyne is who made the factory injectors that came in those trucks. I checked around and found that most of your large part stores (Napa, O'Reilly's, Advanced, ect) are way overpriced I went to an independent diesel repair shop that rebuilds injector pumps, and injectors. As for the extent of the repair I replaced all of mine in about 2 hours right in my driveway. hope this helped, Good luck and rock on

I personally could not see the ad, but I would NEVER buy a part so notorious for crapping out. I personally have bought quite a few junk yard parts, but I have limits. I would NEVER buy any type of hose or belt at a junk yard though. It is just one of those things you have to go with your gut on. Good luck to ya, and post pics if ya get it!
