Question from a beginner.
Hi Fellas. Im new to this Forum and new to Diesel Engines. I hope to make many friends and learn as much as I can from y'all. Id like to purchase a Diesel Truck and as I am partial to Ford Trucks it will likely be a Ford. My question is this, I recently spotted an 89 F 250 with the 7.3 Diesel. It has 156,000 on it and looks to be in decent shape body wise. Heres the problem. It doesnt run. The Man claims that he changed the Fuel Filter and now it wont start but that it ran fine beforehand. Also, he claims in the Ad that it needs Glow Plugs. Hes asking 1500 for it which I think is way to high for a vehicle that doesnt run. Also, the Glow Plug thing is scaring me as Ive read that changing them can result in breakage if they are worn and old and incur big cost and hassle removing the Cylinder Head{s} Any advice on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well I could go the price if he is stuck on it, but like I said the fact that it doesnt run and the Glow Plug issue is bothering me. I guess what I am asking is whether or not this may be an easy fix as the Man said the vehicle ran fine before he changed the Filter.

No problem. If you have the time and money go foe it, personally im a ford guy at heart, traded a f150 four door loaded for a 99 dodge cummins and love it, look at some first gen or early second gen dodges alot easier to work on. I replaced the glow plugs in my 99 pstroke and it took 7 hrs because one was seized into the head and we removed it without taking the head off thank gos

im not to fond of the ole ford diesels, and unless your ready to pony up the money to fix it, and maintain it dont do it, espicially at the price of diesel its 4.19 a gallon. Im a ford guy at heart but I just didnt want an International engine. fords and chevys are the most expensive to repair do to the fact injectors on the 94-02 fords are in the 300 dollar range a piece, im not trying to dog the ole 6.9L and 7.3L but in my preferance they are not even worth looking at, but thats just me but for 1500 your not gonna find a good truck, and if he changed the fuel filter he may gave a bad lift pump, or air in the lines, they are not gonna self prime... or hes flat lieing out...

save and wait for the right truck dont rush into it, one of my buddies rushed into the diesel world and bought a diesel couldent afford the fuel sold it, then bought one a 93 CTD and it was a POS and then bought his prothers 93 and traded it for a ford that had NO FLUIDS in anything except the engine. a run of bad luck, but save your money look into what you think will be best for you... patience is the key I have spend months looking for the truck I have now, and I got a good deal...
