Default Steering/gear selector lock

Ok, so I was successful in changing my heater core but now I have another problem.

After I got done with the core install I was checking everything out and noticed that my steering wheel/ gear selector lock is not working, something I have never messed with and don't know anything about.

I need to know what I could have possibly missed or broken to cause this not to work, any input will be greatly appreciated?

I fooled around with it today after doing a search on 4 different forums, the steering wheel lock does work at 180 degrees out of center and now the shift selector is locking so I still don't know how they work but they seem to be working now.

I am just one of the picky guys I guess because most guys responded that theres weren't working and they didn't care.

The reason I was concerned is with the remote start I didn't want it accidentally going into gear when I started it.
