motor swap
OK, so a couple weeks ago I posted with concerns about a used Dodge Ram 3500. As it turns out, my concerns about what appeared to be excessive blow-by turned to reality a couple days ago when the dealership I bought it through call to tell me I need a new motor (5.9L ETH varity). The "stealership" I bought the truck from has agreed to at least pay part of the cost of another engine. They however are not being very proactive in the search (big surprise) and I am having to do the leg work. They at first indicated they could buy a used drop-in motor for about 8500.00, but later call me to say it was already sold. Since then, nothing from them! I have been searching for a rebuilt 5.9L ETF manual trans motor without much success. Today I located a NEW 6.7L drop-in ready motor for about 10.5K, but don't know if it will bolt right up, does anyone know if this will work?

I don't think they'd bolt right up. I think the fuel systems and most of the electronics are different. But I could be way off.
And why you need a new motor? rebuilding would be the same price if not cheaper, and you could put better parts on in the process.

And you should be able to find motors way cheaper than that I'd think. Even on ebay they are cheaper than that.

The ECM's won't match .... the electronics on the 5.9 and 6.7 are way different.
Worst case is you let them know you'll be contacting an attorney and their state's Attorney General's Office of Consumer Affairs. They can make things happen for you, includling revoking the business license for that "stealer".
If I had to go that route, they'd be buying me a totally new engine.

I think I would waste my time going to the AG and BBB. The truck was sold to me as is, I just didn't see anything abnormal at the time of purchase, it was only after I drove it for a couple days did I really get concerned that there might be something seriously wrong. The "stealership" is paying 1/2 the cost of a replacement motor I located for $6,500. The reality is even after replacing the motor I am still only into the truck about $24,000 which I think is still a pretty good price for a '06 Ram 3500 with a manual trans. in this part of the country.

I hate telling you, but the BBB won't do jack for you. Basically they are a complaint department and that's it. The AG's Consumer Affairs Dept is for exactly this kind of problem.
Good news about finding a new engine, though. And yeah, I would keep the core and build up a nice lil powerhouse.
