oh man, i just went to my local dodge dealer to have them check for error codes, no real problem there. howerer, the mechanic commented (no strongly suggested) that i bring my 2006 Ram 3500 back in for a compression check, leakdown check and bore scope because of my "excessive" blowby. i am hearing #'s like 15K thrown around as if thats small change. i guess my question is, does it really cost that much to rebuild this naughty 5.9L?

While I was at the dealership, I was talking to the diesel guy and he said the last one that they just turned loose was just a touch over 15k too. As much as I hate to tell you that. How many miles you got on it, it should still be under warranty?

at that price it'd be better to do it yourself if you can but dying at 160k seems extremely premature

well that wont help ya. one of the cummins guys should be able to tell you how to check blow by. i may not love cummins but i would never expect a cummins to be dying under 275k unless it was really beat on.

If it runs fine and doesn't bother you, then you have nothing to worry about excessive blow-by.
