Default Air Intake Box Ideas Needed

Ok so after putting the new turbo on I can no longer use my factory air box because it wont fit right I thought about trying to use a air box off of a 03 but still dont think it would work right and would then have to relocate my battery somewhere. So here is a picture, the air is obviously being restricted right now but cant think of a way to change it up. So give me your ideas if you have any.

Yup, what he said. Heat shield wouldn't take long at all to bend up. Just get a chunk of sheet metal of stainless sheet and let er buck.

Maybe Whitmore will jump in here. He's done that 3rd gen intake and relocated his battery. If you're interested in that route he might be able to help.

yes but the air is still being restricted by that bend that it has to make because of the cac pipe. The clearance between the cac pipe and the inlet of the turbo isnt big enough to fit the factory air intake hose through there and as you can see in the pics the cac pipe is pushing in on the intake hose, thats what I would really like to get rid of.

yes and I thought about that but when looking at it, it seems there would still have to be a pretty good bend. Even running it infront of the cac hose it seems as though it would be a really tight fit. and because we had to change the route of the cac hose slightly to make the turbo fit I dont even know if a air box off a 3rd gen will fit in there. I may just end up having to relocate my battery and build my own air box or maybe hack up a 3rd gen box .

If the element is not getting anything but pre-heated air, then your bend is probably not your main issue. I have seen over 240 degree inlet air temps on some DIY intakes. This puts a whole other problem in the forefront.

what about reclocking the compressor housing so the discharge will be at say the 6, 7, or 8 o'clock position and then shorten your charge tube..... that'll free up all that space where the inlet is...... it should be a simple loosening of the bolts that hold the compressor housing to the center section and rotating slowly as not to tear the gasket in there..... some housings have a big ole snap-ring type thing on the back holting it to the center section.... take it out rotate and re-install...... that to me seems like the easiest thing and then you'll have room to do a heat shield. you can make a heat shield for the turbine housing and then one for the filter......

PS. the cheap stainless pots from Wal-Mart or any variety store when cut in half (down the middle crossing through the bottom) can make an awesome heatshield, and it's shiney too..... and cheaper than a sheet of stainless......

just a thought.....

yea thats what we were going to look at this weekend we were thinking about reclocking it to about 6oclock and from what I have got on another site they all said about 6 oclock too.

Thanks for the idea about the pots I never even thought about that. Someone should come out with diamond plate pots .

I am moving both my batteries to my side tool box, to do anything under hood is too full.

Got 2 new batteries, cable and cable ends, bought 25 ft of 3/00 cable, the one with purple stripe.

Will up pic's to link below when done
