Drilling and tapping the manifold is very easy to do. Cast iron is fairly soft so there isnt a lot to be concerned about. Now, tapping is a little more difficult....make sure you take your time and make sure that the tap is always perpendicular to the manifold. You really donet want your probe at an angle.

Here is a simple how-to:

http://www.piersdiesel.com/TechPyroInstall.htm - make sure you drill a pilot hole.

What I usually do is have someone with a shop vac suck up all the cuttings as I drill. After drilling is complete I take a q-tip with soeme grease and get all the cuttings I can from the manifold. I also do the same after the hole is tapped.

If you have any questions, fire away.

Yeah, thats supposed to work too....

Wait a minute, you tapped with the engine running? I heard of drilling with the engine running but not tapping.

sure then the filings spit out the tail pipe................just start with a good center punch then drill till ya get a good indent in the manifold then start er up and run er thru there..................use lotsa cuttin oil on the tap and run the tap 90* at a time the back out and back in........its all good man

I work on a live gas plant for a living and we dont shut thing off much round here

Just go the extra step and pull the manifold off, then you can port and polish it while it's off. It makes a big difference from stock. From the factory they are horrible inside.

I really hope you didn't actually do that with the motor running? That is VERY dangerous and a real simple way of burning yourself real bad. Not to mention shorting something out by hitting the battery or worse yet getting something stuck in the fan belt.

I strongly recommend that this not be done.
