The heat issues with a 6.7 are largely over blown. Even stock my 6.7 rarely runs hot water wise and with the RE-Gens and EGR cycling the EGTs were within stock levels. That being during full load never over 1300 but in regen near 1450°F. Now that I have disabled the smog components and run the SMarty I have yet to see 1200°F in the moderate power levels and cruise temps around 700°F or less. Don't let the "big machine" store in Edm. fool you into a cool air intake for the 6.7 unless you have gone the delete route and beefed the tranny first.
If your 6.7 is stock a cool air intake is wasted money. The EGR will maintain intake air temperatures in the 140°F mark to keep NOX levels in check. If you have aftermarket treatments to disable those components, the stock air system is fully capable of 500hp without breaking a sweat and pulls air directly from behind the headlight.
The Scotty II was the air system of choice as it was the only system to pull positive air pressure from the cowl (ALA NASCAR) to provide cool air charge to the turbo.. I have one and it drops EGTs by at least 150°F over any other system on the market. True it has been out of circulation for some time, but I also know Scotty personally and its not dead and he owns the patents.
First genners have the advantage of the air box close to the front anyway and the stock air filter is larger and can be compared to BHAF flow rates in stock form. Augmenting the intake hole behind the head light for larger inlet flow and trimming of the body work under the headlight improves the cool air inlet.
