well that and also due to the design of the bottom end of the motor they have more main caps 7 of them to be precise, while the v8's have 5.

more main caps you can push the tuck harder cause the bottom end is mechanically built to handle more torque. and if its able to do that, then the cranks throws (connecting rod journals) can be placed out further on the crankshaft mechanically increasing the torque though a simple fulcrum principle. and the other parts have to stand up to the extra demands so on and so forth.

each motor was built for its intended purpose and ratings.

every motor should last you a very long time no matter what make, if its maintained right with the right oil at the right intervals you should not have a problems. because there is no metal to metal contact ever if its maintained.

I know on the cummins and the dmax you do have to tear into the valve covers periodically to adjust the valve lash. But on the power stroke they have hydraulic lifters so there is always zero lash and never needs to be adjusted unless there is a serious problem do to the lack of lubrication.

I LOVE my 2005 DODGE dually 4x4, Its stk including the cat converter, it pulls anything I've ever wanted to, gets great milage, easy to work on, ( you don't have to remove the cab like FORD or be a Contortionist for Chevy ) to get to areas low under the hood, hard to beat, and yes I've owned and worked on all three but DODGE is my favorite Just my opinion

Cummins, you get more horsepower with less moving parts (6 cylinder in-line engine)

Chevy, V8 motor (made in tokyo)
Ford, V8 motor, I still have one, 96 ford f350 7.3 International (pain to work on, very tight places, very expensive to get a lot of HP

y do almost all the tractors that run wide open there whole life an semi's pull ever mile have inline 6 if V8 diesels are so great an powerful y arnt they in them. im a ford guy an had a powerstroke for my first diesel an drove many (no power). can't say anything about chevy never pulled with 1 but don't like the motor seen to many go down the track an the manifolds glowing I rode in a cummins 1 time an 4 months later i had 1 for myself never thought i would ever own a dodge but if ur gonna pull an want to get there faster then ur ford or chevy friends CUMMINS is the way to go. 1 more thing the amount of money u have to put in to get more power is alot less then the rest (just an opinion)

Very nicely put I dont like the whole this is better mine is better game but I think that it is up to the individual as to what they prefer and what they want. For me I have always and always will be a true Chevy fan when it comes to gas engines but for a diesel my preference is always going to be cummins. And as for the Dodge body and ride I like it my dad has an 04 chevy 2500 gasser and I think my Dodge rides every bit as good JMHO

Parts an airflow management.

and with the newer technologies people don't even have to lift a finger to make alot of power with any of the newer diesels, how much power you make depends on something else (ill let you figure out that one for yourself)

I don't really under stand this. The way I see it is only 1 piston fires at a time. So if I have a lets say 300 hp 5.9 cummins each cylinder only produces 50 hp?? Wouldn't each cylinder fire have to produce 300 hp because they fire one at a time?

33% ? 2 less pistons? Fact is, the Cummins parts are comparitively HUGE next to the V8 rods.

Some would use statistics and numbers as a drunk would use a lampost - more for support rather than illumination.
