Hey Pl, if your make down to the old neck of the woods give me a call and I'll borrow my roommates vaccuum pump, I'm not sure if it applies to your truck but on the newer trucks the oriface tube is made into the lines and if the compressor locked up its best to replace it.

SSSHHHHH!!!!

Cashwheel, it should work on there, all the r134 fittings should be universal to all vehicles. He needs to pull vacuum on it to recharge it anyway, otherwise it won't work right

Hey Cash, I know I'll be in Prairie Lea this weekend (Old work-related stuff) but after I buy the compressor, I may take you up on that deal. (only about 4 hours home) Thanks for the offer! By the way...you guys making any hay this year with all the rain. I know of a couple of people that I could send your way for round bales.

Thanks, again, everybody!

I just replaced a compressor on a vehicle and the parts store made me buy the evaporator or they would not warranty the compressor.

if it has an orfice tube(some earlier r-134 systems still used expansion valves) you should change it b/c this also acts as a filter. If you pull the orfice tube out and it is full of shavings I would recommend flushing your system's components with A/C flush(available at most parts stores). If you flush out your system remember to add oil to your components(condensor, accumulator, evaporator core) ask if your new compressor comes with oil in it,if not it will need oil too. The oil type you will need will be on a sticker on the compressor(also has quantity for compressor). as to how much oil to put in each component check the trucks shop manual it should specify. after all this put everything together and pull a vacuum on the system. then charge your system with freon, look on your core support it should have the refrigerent capacity listed on a sticker somewhere. be careful not to buy freon with extra oil and stop leak b/c you will have too much oil in the system. changing the accumulator(drier) depends on how long your system has been exposed to oustide air, but at the least flush it. I just replaced the compressor(clutch quit), orfice tube(full of metal shavings), and a liqiud line(it was leaking) on my 06 in June, so all of this is still fresh in my mind(and wallet). I know this sounds like a lot and I'm sorry for the novel here but It might save you some headaches down the road or someone else.

^^^^ what he said!! also, gm has always recommended in the event of a "catastophic compressor failure" that you pull the condensor inlet line and look for metal shavings. if there are metal shavings then you should just replace the condensor because the condensor can never be flushed good enough to get all the debri out. i don't think a dodge would be any different.

just my $.02

Your supposed to get the freon vaccuumed out, but if you chose to crack the lines yourself and let it out, be careful, that refrigerant will burn you just like propane
and if you do it wrong it can fry your whole system

Really, I didn't know that. Thanks. Everyone I've ever broke open was usually in an '80's model Toyota P/U just doin an engine swap where the A/C wasn't going to be used anyway.

Well...I paid $800 to have a new compressor, accumulator, orifice tube, oil & seals put on the truck. What the heck does it mean when a white vapor blows out the vents? Is it a clogged condensate line? If so, where the heck is the line? I am clueless about auto a/c.

All I know is that I paid a bunch of money and that D*mn A/C ought freeze me out of the cab. Any ideas on the white vapor?
