Default Are Clutches Evil?

I took my truck in to have it aligned and had some other problems fixed as well. Everything is going good now but I have a question. Are new clutches normally stiff? What about aftermarket clutches, are they stiff as well? My clutch pedal has been stiff since I bought it but the diesel mechanic said there was nothing apparently wrong with it. All the checks and looking he did came out positive so now Im wondering, what's really in my truck or what's really wrong? The guy said they may have put a new stock clutch or an aftermarket clutch and that could be the reason for the stiffness because they usually get softer as they wear out. Although I can't tell without taking the clutch apart to look I was curious what you guys think. Thanks!

Most aftermarket Single Disc clutches have the pedel pressure of a stock clutch. Dual Discs can be a different story depending on the Pressure Plate and if they installed aftermarket Hydraulics. When I installed my Single Disc Feramic clutch it was actually a softer pedal than my wore out stock clutch. The only real way to know what clutch your running is to drop the trans.

try a 4000lb plate load that makes your clutch stiff

Hahaha sounds intense! I think I will pass on that unless you will let me push the clutch in on your truck

Stick it in 3rd gear and try a boosted launch. If the tires break loose you have a very good single disc or possibly a dual. If the clutch laughs at you and stinks up the truck you have a stocker.

just went from a SB Con OFE to a SB 3850 DD what a difference...but even my 13" single disc was still a little stiffer that stock...
