But the engine is VERY loud!

The 6.0 liter HEUI's pulsed several times per combustion stroke, right? One of those wasn't a "pilot" injection?

Originally it did, and they were very quiet at idle anyways. It was one of the first things to get axed in the upcoming 100 reflashes. Every once in a while I'll hear an 03 running on the original flash, I love the way they sound, but then again I've always been fond of the powerstrokes.

In my opinion the Powerstroke became the best sounding pickup truck diesel engine when the 2nd gen 24v was replaced in 2003. The newer cummins sound pretty bad, until they get twin turbos, then they sound badass.

If your talking engine noise the powerstrokes win hands down if your talking exhaust note I would have to say the cummins and the fastest stock would have to be the chevy unfortunatly(lighter by lots then the other 2)

I agree on the chevy being the fastest, but what year cummins are you talking about.

I started a thread on another forum asking if it was possible to put a 24v cummins in a 3rd gen. I just love the sound of those 24valve 2nd gens. If it was possible I would probably do it just for the sound.
