Turndown or rear exit?

With pollution control only gettin tougher by the day what about looking at one of the hollow exhaust systems. Looks just like the real thing from the outside, but it is a straight pipe all the way through. Keeps the ticket writers happy. If you don't pull any trailers striaght out the back is kinda cool, but you also have to store the spare tire someplace. For most that's not a problem cause the spare is to big to fit in the location anyway. Personally I always go with the stock location.

Keeping the cat depends on whether your state requires you to leave it on or not. Here in Massachusetts, you have to leave it on. I just took my muffler off and replaced it with a pipe of the same length, and the cat actually makes it sound just right. A little muffled, but not do much.

I could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure its a fed law that you have to keep the stock emissions stuff on the truck. Now if you don't have state inspections or plan on moving some where that does you should have anything to worry about.
Stock exit IMO since you will have soot allover the bottom side of your truck if you don't.

Mine is currently 3" straight back from the turbo,no muffler or cat and it exits just behind the passenger side tire, with a slight down turn. I like it there, the only issue I have is the soot build up on my mud flap. With that being diamond plate it always does look black. But what the heck, its a diesel. I do wish it was louder. Love to drive in town between buildings and romp on it some to hear the exhaust and turn a few heads...
