Default codes

is there a way to check for codes on a 2nd gen 94 cummins 12v? i dont have the little port under the dash like the 96's do. the reason im asking is the check engine light came on today. i dont know if i should be worried about it since almost half the engine isnt stock anyway (new head, turbo, injector pump, all the performance you can think of) or should i just pull the fuse?

I know the 3 key trick works on 2nd Gen 24v's ... not sure about 12v's though. But hey it's worth a shot right.

Turn the key from off to on 3 times without starting the truck. If it works you'll get a code or DONE on the ODO. If you get neither take the key out and start over. It normally takes me a time or two to get it.

it should have atleast an OBD I on that truck, there has to be some way to read codes on it unless you might need to call a cummins dealer and ask what ya need to do.

There should be a way to get the codes...I thought the key on/off thing worked, much like the 24Vs or you still should be able to use a scanner (I know you can on the later 12V's)

Think I found it.

The 3 key trick does work...but it doesn't give you a digital code like the 24v's...it blinks at you. You've got to count the CEL blinks.

Cycle the key on and off three times. Leave it on the third time. Count the number of flashes the check engine light gives you. These will be the error codes. It will be a series of flashes with a small pause between numbers. If memory serves me right 12 is the start test code and 55 is the end code. We need the numbers in between.
