Safe to run it? 5-40 and 15-40 syn is a little over $30/gal and I don't have the cash to run it.

 

Which brand? You have to be careful that it has the correct additives, mostly to deal with the soot.

I think you are better off with a 10W30 for diesel applications.


Check out Exxon XD-3 Extra 10W30 - its good to -33C. Their 30wt is only good to -24:

check shell to, there rotella T is also made for diesel engines. I use the 10w30 rotela t, find it great.

 

I'm with Dr. Evil on this one... I'm also using Exxon XD-3 Engine Oil and never had a issue yet with it.



It even approved for use in Cummins engines!
