Default What programmer to buy

I have a 2003 ram 3500, it is straight piped but stock other than that. I want to get a programmer for it without having to do any trans. work. I tow an 18000 pound holiday rambler and want a little more muscle for towing and a little more power for fun. The only problem is that i am worried about harming the lifespan of my engine/trans. I wanted to get the bully dog triple dog but was advised to get the smarty. How much hp gain can i do safely and still be able to blow a little smoke?

do you have any gauges or anything? For the price I would say edge ez or something similar. Have heard that bullydog is a good killer of the trans

I myself like the edge juice with attitude as it also gives you gauges etc and it's adjustable on the fly and you can set alarms etc to keep you from getting it too hot or going to fast. but everyone has their own likes and dislikes edge site for your truck http://edgeproducts.com/products.php...tegory_key=all

i would def recommend the Smarty great programmer, or the Smarty Jr. i think will work in your year of truck, if ya get the smarty or similiar you should definately get guages no question, boost, EGT, and Tranny temp (Im assuming its an auto) and fuel pressure, and i would also recommend an aftermarket lift pump

I run my smarty on level 5 with the added timing but kept the other settings on stock levels (torque mang, fuel pressure, etc...) I have had no problems for over 5000 miles now on my auto. I also have trans temp, boost, pyro and have seen nothing reach anywhere near dangerous temps and this includes city driving, freeway, and mountain driving. The power is nice and smooth and you can get some decent smoke when u get on it but if you take it easy it is nice and clean.

I am running the Edge Attitude W/Juice and for the money you get all the options you are looking for Mileage, Towing etc. you also get the gauges built in to the unit along with speed alerts, temp. alerts, records and it even has 1/4 mile times. I found mine a year old (used) with a new pillar mount shipped for $515.00 and LOVE IT !

As long as your happy thats great now what about some gauges? I was just stating what I have been told about bully dog setups and the trans. once you add power the auto tranny does not last as long and your neighbor was prolly driving with it on high but thats why we love these things and know the risks when turning up the juice...
