Default A/C Compressor

i have an old a/c compressor in my shop of a 454 big block. the a/c unit used the old r-12 stuff, i am wanting to try and use it for an air compressor on my truck for my air tanks, is it possible to use this a/c compressor as an air compressor or is goin to burn up if no r-12 is in the system?

the lack of R-12 want make it burn up but when you recharge AC then machine also puts in a small amount of oil to keep the compressor happy, so yes you will most likely burn up the compressor if you use it to pump air, my best advice for you is to get a compressor off of a semi and try to rig it up to your pulleys to drive and that will fill your tanks, although that may not work either but ya never know
