Im not sure how mixing the starting battery and the deep cycle would work.

The red tops are worth it just to get rid of the damn battery corrosion problems.


There's a guy in local here in Phoenix, he sells reconditioned red tops for $100 straight. I just got mine and was all excited, then I took it out of the back of my Toyota and promptly dropped it from 5 feet in the air. I put a dent in my brand new red top...


Still works though.

I just had this conversation with a friend regarding the corrosion issue. The drivers side battery and cables are shot. So I think the red tops are sounding better and better.

Infidel on DTR claims that one of his red tops is MISSING part of the CASE and it still works great

Could get a group 31 and forget about the second battery.

I have had 3 red tops and 2 were great and one lasted 4 months. the bad one was in a stock wrangler put in a cheap wally world battery to see if jeep was problem and it's been 3 years with no battery issue.

I got both yellow tops,and hav'nt had a problem.

runem' wet dry cold hot and upside down optima batteries best you can buy!!!! dual red tops here never had prob out of optima

I did buy the Red Tops but havent installed them yet. I have a custom setup and am needing to replace my terminals and some cable lugs so its not quite as simple as changing out the batteries..
FYI,Wal-Mart sells optima batteries.
