well the way it looks to me, all the specials they have had here lately like the life time warranty and the 2.99 for fuel, it seems like they still arent selling them like they want. i know the diesels around here arent selling even with the incentives.

 

Chrysler is privately owned, unless they have opened their books to the general public, I can't see how any one would know what kind of shape they are in?

 

the whole world is going to he..!! Just my opinion, its pretty bad when a man can't just jump in his truck and drive across the country any more b/c of freaking FUEL prices!! But i think that is the main reason, they aren't selling. People are just scared of maintenance costs and all that when it comes to diesels, they really don't want a truck anymore at all. Plus 2.99 for diesel or gas is still high, i can remember the days of $1 per gallon or even less for diesel!! This world (America) is heading for another depression fast. But like i said just my opinion!!

 

Chrysler has struck a deal in principal with a manufacturer in China to build SUV's over there. Bet you they will be small displacement diesels too...

20 years ago diesel was really cheap - like 20 cents a litre if I remember right. Then it jumped and levelled out at around 35. It was there a while then slowly climbed with inflation until 2002 when it took a major correction and fell again. From this point it has climbed nearly 300% to what it is now at $1.459 a litre.

 

I don't know if I believe the news report or not as the first time the story came out they said it would be GMC who was close to bankruptcy and it was later on in the day that they changed it to Chrysler. Also they never even said that the news report had been corrected let along to say sorry we messed up by listing GMC as being close to bankruptcy!

 

There is no question the big 3 are all in trouble. They clearly over the last 10 years or so have lacked foresight and vision. This major increase in fuel costs has only made them all wake up and think a little harder.

Ford has wrote down millions in their battles with International, GMC is closing truck plants and has been at or near chapter 11 for some time and Chrysler was loosing so badly that Diamler sold them (no surprise, really).

It is likely that the diesels will always survive in 1 way or another because they are used in multiple markets but the gasser SUV and light duty pickup is getting really close to thin ice.
