Default 05 Dodge Upgrade Questions?

Hey ya'll, I dont personally own a Dodge, but a guy that works with me has an 05 Dodge.. We dont know anything about his truck. But heres the deal.. Its all stock, and hes wanting to know what all he can do to it for fuel mileage gains, and a lil extra HP.. but without shelling the stock tranny. Hes got Bully Dog Triple Pup on it, and he just bought a K&N cold air intake for it. I told him to wait on the K&N cause I know my stock chevy filter flows as much as I need with a slight air box mod, so I dont need to buy a cold air.. But Is it gonna help him to install that intake? or is there a dodge airbox mod that will do the same thing? Also, is there a better/worse exhaust for the Cummins?

LikeI said, hes after mainly fuel mileage, but extra power aint hurtin nuthin ...

Thanks ya'll..

get rid of the cat either with a cat delete or a 4" turbo back, the intake will help but would get a dry type filter basically do a bhaf, and from what I hear the intake horns on the 3rd gens are not so great. and keep his foot out of it get egts down and boost down will get best mileage

Firstly, the truck has 4" exhaust from factory, install inlimnator pipe where cat is.
Does he have gauges for EGTs, Boost? Set programmer to Tow mode, may get better mileage and some bottom end. Keep rpms under 2000 and boost under 10psi.
Re-educate skinny pedal foot...
