i really like 2 dodge 2500 and want a 2nd opinion
I come to your from the world of Powerstroke Diesels. I've owner ford truck my entire adult life and my last truck as a 1995 F350 CCLB with a 7.3L PSD with 180CC injectors, S336 turbo, and a ZF 5 speed transmission.
I loved that truck until earlier this year when an uninsured drunk driver decided to run a red light and totaled my truck. So now I’ve saved up some money and am in the market for a new diesel.
My budget is rather restricted and hence my choices are trucks ranging from 1992 to 2003. There are 2 trucks on my local craigslist that have peaked my interest and I’m wondering which one is the better bang for the buck. My only real requirement is that the truck have a Manual Transmission.
First truck is an unmolested 2WD 1997 Dodge 2500 12V Cummins with a P7100. This truck has 138K miles.
Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel 12 Valve

12V Pro’s: Manual Transmission, Truck is Unmolested, Low Miles, I can modify it any way I want over time.
12V Con’s : No on the fly power adjustment. rough exterior.
The second truck is a heavily modified 4WD 2001 Dodge 2500 24V Cummins with a set of compound turbo’s.
ARP head studs, Evil fab 600 Compound setup, 175hp Injectors, Fass 150, Sinister intake elbow
Edge Juice with attitude with hot unlock, Pillar gauges Fuel/Boost/EGT, Dual disc Valair ceramic clutch, Kenwood door speakers, Sony single din radio
2001 DODGE CUMMINS 6 SPEED

24V Pro’s : Manual Transmission, lowish miles, 4WD, on the fly power adjustment tunes .
24V Con’s : VP44, Short bed.
To be honest if I were modifying either of the trucks. I would do almost the exact same mods to the truck that this owner 2001 Dodge.
I really like both truck and So my questions is what in your opinion in the better buy and why is it the better buy. Also what would be a fair offering price for each truck?

The 12-valve cummins is a refreshing change. Just more affordable to run, and simpler all around. Not a fan of the 2ndgens build quality...
