2005 ram boggs out @ 2600-2900 rpms
I just bought this truck and it seems to be giving me problems already. Its a 2005 ram cummins 2500 crew cab 4x4 with 60k miles on it all stock. This problem just started today. It starts up fine and DRIVES FINE until I constantly get on it, it seems like the fuel gets cut off and a bunch of black smoke comes from the tailpipe around 2600-2800 rpms. I will have my foot all the way down on the gas and all it does is spit out smoke and doesnt go anywhere. It almost feels like a speed governer. I was reading that it could be the maf, map, bad diesel, bad fuel filter or bad injectors. Could it also mean that the motor is knocking because im constantly on it? Or that this is just stock tuning (but I dont think so). I just ordered the bigg hoss bundle last week but i dont think im gonna install it just yet until i know whats going on. anything will help. Thanks fellas.
i dont know about the common rails, but the older 24 valves 98.5-2002 defuel at 2700 rpms so that is probably what is happening. chip should help. but the truck does have a governor and that is what it will do. im not sure about the smoke but it probably is defueling do to the stock tune. maybe even get a boost fooler that, the engine reads how much boost and adjusts fuel accordingly so a boost fooler will help a little.
Someone that knows more about the common rails will be able to tell you if im right or if it something else
