in need of advice (sorry about the long story here)
hello and thanks for reading,
so i recently bought a 1996 ram 2500 4x4 auto trans with the 12 valve in it and after having some problems i debating if i should keep it or sell it and get a better 12 valve.
So begins my story I was looking to get a truck after my last truck was totaled (it was a 92 Chevy 1500 with a small block) i decided to get a 12 valve so i could pull more than just one car behind me like a big camping trailer and get good fuel mileage...and 12 valves are just bad ***. so i buy this truck and it has an ATS transmission a 40 gal tank/toolbox in the bed hooked up to the stock tank. i drove from Tucson AZ to Los Lunas NM and was driving home when the trans decide to up shift then down shift then up shift all in about 2 second and i lost power to the rear wheels. i spent almost two months going back and forth with ATS and the shop i had it at to find out it was a ATS rebuild that was out of the five year warranty by about 6 months and had to pay out of pocket, so I found another shop in town to fix the trans replaced the over sized ATS torque converter and the stock input shaft it broke with a rebuild for about $1200. while it was there in the shop the master cylinder leaked into the brake power booster and was reduced to foundation brakes. replaced cylinder, booster, and brake fluid, drove around for a week then i parked it at work went to go to lunch and my truck did not want to move, gear selector works both lever and switch on trans has plenty of fluid, no leaks... well the only leak it has now is a leaky LF brake caliper so now I've been trying to get it the the same shop to see what is going on with the trans.
so there is my story and now i'm left thinking what did i get myself into and is it worth staying with this truck? so if y'all were in this situation what would you do?
thanks again for reading my short novel
