ECM And Its Functions
Electronic Control Module (ECM)
The ECM is located on the drivers side of the motor behind the fuel filter. The ECM is basically a collection point for all the wiring from various sensors and switches located on the motor. The ECM receives signals called signal inputs from the sensors and switches, based on the signals the ECM regulates the operation of the motor using signal outputs.
ECM inputs
Accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS)
Apps idle validation switches 1 and 2
Battery voltage
Camshaft position sensor (CPPS)
CCD - circuits
CCD+ circuits
Crankshaft position sensor (CPS)or(CKP)
Data link connector--- for scan tool
Fuel injection pump control module (FPCM)
Engine coolant temp sensor (ECT)
Ground circuits
Intake manifold air temp sensor (IAT)
Manifold air pressure sensor (MAP)
Oil psessure sensor
Power control module (PCM)
Power take off (PTO)
Power ground
signal ground
Water in fuel sensor (WIF)
After these inputs are received from the ECM as signal inputs they return as signal outputs to the following
CCD+
CCD-
CPS and APPS to the PCM
Data link connector fro DRB tool
5volt sensor supply
Fuel injection pump
FPCM
Lift pump
Grid heaters
Check engine lamps----------------- hehehehehehe
PCM
Wait to start lamp
WIF
SO next time you wash yer motor with a high pressure system please dont give a direct hit to the ECM as you will pay big time.
Cheers, Kevin
