I'm thinking the style that are mounted on the larger trucks with air brakes. I know on Isuzu FRR's they have an air compressor mounted in a hole on the side opposite the starter that runs off the flywheel. They are fairly compact and it seems with a little fab work it might not be too difficult.

I know electric would probably be the easiest, but it seems like the cfm is kinda low.

 

there are several companies that have kits just like you are looking for but can't remember the names off my head. their life span is not all that good and the mainenance sux plus they are NOT cheap. I used to work for freightliner and we would have people put them on the bullets we sold for like roadside truck services and such. If remember correctly, the kits installed were near $10 grand!

 

That's interesting. The compressors on the FRR's that I serviced went 150k no problems. That's when the company replaced their trucks, but they seemed pretty reliable.
I was thinking just picking one up at a truck wrecking yard and putting it in.

The Freightliners I service, however, seem to have a LOT of problems. The build quality doesn't seem to be the same. Maybe it's just the style truck I've had to work on.

I have a home built Kilby type kit on my 02. It runs off a mid 70's thru late 80's Ford air comditioning pump that is oil cooled and puts out 10.5cfm I can run air tools with it and I have a 4 gallon tank and can run my Hadley air horns on stoop and never run out of air.

Like I said I saved a ton of money (with the help of a few friends) fabbing this stuff at home. The pumps are a dime a dozen at the local wrecking yard

 

You can get all the part at any truck shop do put one on, but your factory accessory belt drive is the limiting factor.

For cost, simple.

That would be the York ac compressor right? I have one of those I pulled off an 85 Ford F150 that I parted out. Do you know of you have to modify them at all for air compressor purposes or can you just use them as is?

Edit: I guess I should have read the link you posted first. The York compressor looks the same as mine. I am still wondering if I can use it as is or if it needs to be modified.
