Oh no - I dont think they are quite that much. Maybe $2k where he is.

Install is probably harder than you would imagine but it is doable.

Make sure you get the heater thats for coolant (Hydronic) and also there are many options - make sure you get the clock/timer.

Have an Espar on my 97. Love it. Best thing since sliced bread.. I had mine purchased, shipped and installed for $1600 CAD.. Espar D5SWC. It really shines when its -30 and no plugs in sight.

Espar seems to be the way I am leaning. They have a Dodge specific setup, and will be an easier install.

I have a Hydronic5 on my truck, and it is amazing. I also have it wired so my blower motor operates on low when the Espar is running. Both the engine and the cab are warm. It was 0*F/-18*C here this morning, and my Espar ran for 40 minutes. Coolant temp was 124*F, and there was zero frost on the windshield!

I have a Websto Thermo Top P with a HTM(Heat time management)100 remote. That means you enter simply time of departure and the heater calculates the run time itself by sensing interior temperature!
Power output is 5200 watt or 17200 BTU.
It is the 4th unit I installed in the vehicles of my girl friend and me, so I have a 12 year history with engine heaters.

1. Fact:
Brand does not matter. Both, the webasto and the espar units are sold million times.

2. Fact:
If you had one, you will never go without again.

3. Fact:
Heating time should at least equal driving time. Otherwise you develop battery deep discharge difficulties or you have to recharge your battery.

4. Fact:
Initial costs are high. But if you run the unit at least once a month it will work reliable forever.

5. Fact:
Espar parts are a bit more pricey.

6. Fact:
The more time you spend with the install the less trouble will appear due to contact problems.

7. Fact:
The heater does consume only 44 W. It's the interior fan draining your battery.(up to 200W)

8. Fact:
You will love an independent supply battery!

9. Fact:
Air heater or coolant heater it your choice- both are cool. You are the coolest if you have both.

10. Fact:
Engine wear almost dissappears. Everybody of your neighbours is jealous when they have to clean the windows while you take another sip out of your coffeecup and read the news while the heater is doing its job with a jet like noise.

Further questions? Feel free to ask!
I have most install plans and details of installations. Time to install is around 8 to 10 hours if done first time and done properly.
